The 10 Best Wedding Videography Locations in Cheshire Chosen by a Local Filmmaker

I’ve lived in Chester for more than a decade. I studied here, built my creative work here, and spent close to ten years performing at weddings across Cheshire with The Pedal Tones before ever picking up a camera. Seeing venues as a musician gives you a different perspective. You feel the flow of the day, the atmosphere of each space, and you learn exactly where the real moments happen.

Now, as a filmmaker, that same perspective shapes the way I shoot weddings. Cheshire is one of the best regions in the UK for cinematic weddings. The mix of mock Tudor architecture, rolling countryside, forests, lakes and soft natural light gives every venue real depth on camera. Most of the venues here have been designed with photographers and filmmakers in mind, which means better lighting, smoother logistics and calmer wedding days all around.

If you’re planning a wedding in Cheshire and want emotional, relaxed storytelling, you can explore my work here:

Below are the ten Cheshire wedding venues I think are exceptional from a filmmaker’s point of view.

1. Sandhole Oak Barn

https://www.sandholeoakbarn.co.uk

Sandhole Oak Barn is one of the most naturally cinematic venues in Cheshire. I filmed Mark and Suzy’s wedding here and it delivered everything you’d want visually.

Why it films beautifully

  • The lake gives you immediate depth and reflections that elevate almost any wide shot
  • The ceremony room is flooded with soft, even natural light from all sides
  • Multiple portrait locations: lakeside, fields, textured wood barns, long grass, open shade
  • On-site prep rooms make it easy for a solo filmmaker or small team to cover both sides of the morning
  • It works in any weather. Overcast gives soft diffusion, sunny days give warm glow and sunset potential

Helpful insider notes

  • The ceremony space is later turned into the dance floor. If the weather is bad, room turnaround can take longer because guests need somewhere to stand.
  • The wedding breakfast space stays set up all day, which cuts down on waiting around.
  • There is a sound limiter but it’s not the worst. If couples want a band, choosing a group familiar with the venue (hello…) makes a difference.

If you want a venue that makes your film feel warm, natural and honest, Sandhole Oak Barn is hard to beat.

2. Heaton House Farm

https://www.heatonhousefarm.co.uk

A venue that has clearly been designed with suppliers and guests in mind. I’ve played here more times than I can count, and the flow of the day is one of the smoothest in Cheshire.

Why it films well

  • Incredible hillside views over the Peak District
  • Ceremony, drinks, wedding breakfast and evening all have dedicated spaces
  • No stressful room turnarounds. The wedding breakfast room is always set and ready.
  • Great wet weather options with indoor sheltered portrait spots
  • Prep rooms on site make morning coverage calm and simple

Musician insight that couples never think about
The stage setup is one of the best in Cheshire for live music. That usually translates to a packed dance floor which makes for brilliant evening footage.

Heaton House Farm is a reliable, well-run venue that gives couples a relaxed experience and suppliers the space to do their best work.

3. Old Palace Chester

https://www.oldpalacechester.com

If you want to feel connected to Chester, this is the one. It’s right across from the River Dee and blends city energy with a peaceful, private feel.

Why it’s visually strong

  • Huge windows for soft, natural light in key rooms
  • Elegant interiors without feeling stuffy
  • The riverside lawn is great for drinks and candid moments
  • Easy access to the Roman Gardens and the surrounding historic architecture
  • Keeps you in Chester without being surrounded by traffic or noise

One thing to note
The bar is in a separate room to the dance floor. Not the end of the world, but as a musician I’ve seen this split crowds unless the evening entertainment is strong. If you’re planning live music, choose performers who can hold a room.

Old Palace Chester feels classy, calm and close to home. Perfect for couples who love the city.

4. Colshaw Hall

https://www.colshawhall.com

Colshaw Hall is grand, polished and beautifully maintained. It has the space and layout that makes a full wedding day feel seamless.

Why filmmakers love it

  • Lots of natural light inside
  • Multiple portrait spots: gardens, courtyard, long driveway, woodland edges
  • Solid flow between rooms, which cuts down on waiting
  • Dedicated ceremony space separate from the reception hall
  • Easy for videographers to set cameras discreetly for speeches

It’s a premium venue, and it looks like one on film.

5. Merrydale Manor

https://www.merrydalemanor.com

Merrydale and Colshaw are sister venues. They share the same high standard of layout, lighting and calm, organised staff.

Why it works for cinematic films

  • Soft, even natural light indoors
  • Beautiful, modern interiors that feel clean and warm
  • Plenty of outdoor space for portraits
  • One of the easier venues for suppliers to work in which results in a smoother day

It’s elegant, modern and consistent. You get reliable results here.

6. Delamere Manor

https://www.delameremanor.co.uk

A venue that feels grand without being overwhelming. I’ve performed here many times with the band.

Why it films well

  • Lakeside ceremony options are stunning on sunny days
  • The glass-roofed courtyard for wedding breakfasts gives huge amounts of natural light
  • Strong golden hour opportunities
  • Forest backdrops and landscaped grounds add texture

Insider note
There is an in-house sound system can narrow down your choice of musicians, but this doesn’t affect the videography side. Filming here is typically very smooth.

The venue is dramatic and cinematic without trying too hard.

7. Pryors Hayes

https://www.pryorshayes.co.uk

Technically a golf club, but a very photogenic one.

Why it’s a good choice

  • Lovely garden area for outdoor ceremonies
  • Lots of natural light inside the main space
  • Open greenery for portraits
  • A soft, relaxed country vibe

It’s simple, friendly and easy on the eye.

8. Owen House Wedding Barn

https://www.owenhouseweddingbarn.co.uk

One of the most practical venues for filmmakers and photographers.

Why it works so well

  • On-site bridal prep and groom prep areas
  • Covered outdoor portrait spots which save the day during rain
  • A dedicated ceremony area separate from the reception space
  • The reception room is large, giving plenty of room for speeches and evening cinematics
  • Excellent supplier access which keeps everything moving on time

It’s rustic in style but incredibly well thought out behind the scenes.

9. Nunsmere Hall

https://www.nunsmere.co.uk

I’ve only played here a couple of times but the grounds make an impression.

Why it films nicely

  • Lakeside surroundings with woodland edges
  • Beautiful gardens for portraits
  • Calm, classic interiors
  • A warm, intimate feel for ceremonies and speeches

It’s timeless and slightly more traditional than some of the barns, but still has cinematic potential.

10. Combermere Abbey

https://www.combermereabbey.co.uk

A venue with a lot of soul. The gardens are the standout feature here.

Why it’s worth including

  • Stunning walled gardens perfect for portraits
  • Romantic, nature-heavy surroundings
  • Soft colours and textures that grade beautifully
  • A peaceful atmosphere that suits emotional storytelling

If you want a venue built around gardens and greenery, this is a strong choice.

Why Cheshire Works So Well on Film
